Advanced Chain Runtime Viewer Quick Reference

The advanced chain runtime viewer is used to graphically display a chain in a 2D diagram.

Actions Menu

The following table lists actions that are available in the runtime viewer Actions menu (top right-hand side) and context-menu of the tab. Note that these actions are context-aware, the Show error action will not be available for chains that have reached status Completed.

ActionDescription
Scheduling > EditEdit scheduling data of the chain. To edit a chain, it must be in an initial state, not Running.
Scheduling > Resubmitsubmit a new chain based on this chain (same chain parameters, and so on). This will pop up the new window to edit the values before the chain is submitted.
Scheduling > Holdthis will hold the chain and recurrence (if any), preventing it from being executed until it is manually released.
Scheduling > Releasethis will release the chain, allowing it to be executed automatically when all its scheduling constraints are met.
Scheduling > Enablethis enables a previously disabled step or process.
Scheduling > Disablethis disables a previously enabled step or process.
Scheduling > Killkill a running chain or process by sending it a signal to stop running. Killing a chain or process may not always be instantaneous. For chains, this will kill all currently running processes in the chain.
Scheduling > Cancelcancel a chain or process that has not yet started running. This will prevent it from ever starting. For chains, this will cancel all processes in the chains that have not yet started; running processes are allowed to reach a final status.
Scheduling > Restartsubmit and start a new chain based on this chain (same definition, parameters, and so on). This will submit and start the chain immediately, without prompting. Note that the value of the Hold on Submit scheduling parameter is carried over to the new chain process, however, it is ignored; the chain process will start as soon as possible.
Scheduling > Restart from ErrorRestart a chain from the step that reached status Error, Killed, or Unknown; identical to Restart for processes not in a chain.
Scheduling > Run NowThe process or chain process is started as soon as possible, regardless of any locks of events it depends on.
Event Handling > Add raise eventAdd a raise event to the current chain process, only available for chain processes that have a pre-running state.
Event Handling > Add wait eventAdd a wait event to the current chain process and optionally clear the event, only available for chain processes that have a pre-running state.
Add NoteAdd a note to the job.
New Alert RuleAllows you to create a new alert rule for the chain with a default Name and Name Pattern.
UpdateUpdate the chain as well as any process to use the latest definitions.
Promote > Promote to systemPromote the object to a remote system.
Promote > Edit further then promoteEdit the export rule set prior to promoting.
DeleteDelete the chain or process, it has to be in a final state. If its state is pre-running, you must cancel it first. If it is running, you must kill it before you can delete it.
Remove Old processesRemove old chains that have reached a final status.
Explain process StatusExplain the current chain status, only works if the current chain status is Queued.
Show diagramShow the chain in a diagram, also useful for SAP process chains.
Show errorDisplay the process that reached status Error.
Get Support FilesAllows you to retrieve the log files and operator messages that can help you troubleshoot a problem. Only available for chains and processes that have reached status Unknown or Error.
Edit DefinitionEdit the properties of the current chain definition.
Monitor process resolutionOpens a process monitor with an IntelliSearch of toplevel: jde:GLOBAL.Training_ProcessMonitor_QuarterClose status:Scheduled,Held,Modified,Never; displaying all processes of the definition in status Scheduled, Held, Modified, or Never.
Show permalinksDisplay the permalinks to this process, which can be used from third-party applications.
Add to navigation barAdd the current object to the navigation bar.
HelpOpen the Monitoring and Managing Processes help topic.
RefreshRefresh the diagram.
Tab > Close tabClose the current tab (only available when the diagram is in its own tab).
Tab > Close all other tabsClose all other tabs, leaving the currently highlighted tab open (only available when the diagram is in its own tab).

Parameter Names and Descriptions

You now have a toggle control to display either chain parameter names or descriptions (default). The preference is stored in the user hive of the registry.

General Navigation

Pointing Device

You use your pointing device to perform the following gestures:

  • CTRL-drag a rectangle - zoom to rectangle.
  • Choose plus [+]/[-] - expand/collapse.
  • Choose an item in the diagram - a menu will appear
    • Items in the menu are context-aware, the availability of actions depends on the status of the process

Keyboard Navigation

  • arrows - used to navigate to the desired step or process
  • TAB - select the elements of the highlighted item in succession
  • SPACE - acts as a click
  • ESC - acts as Cancel and closes any popup boxes
  • +/- - zoom-in or out
  • p - selects the parameters of the current item
  • n - selects the notes of the current item
  • r - selects the pre-condition

Toolbar

  • - zoom in 10%
  • - zoom out 10%
  • - expand all, recursively
  • - collapse all, recursively
  • - print the chain to PDF
  • - open this help page
note

The expand all action remains active as data will be fetched asynchronously! Manually expanding/collapsing a box or clicking the expand all button again will stop the action.

Symbols

  • - files
  • - output file (when multiple files were created)
  • - operator message
  • - operator message requiring a reply
  • - replied operator message
  • - event
  • - raised event
  • - cleared event
  • - chain has both an operator message and an event
  • - parameters * - In parameter * - Out parameter
  • - note

Printing

You print the chain to PDF in order to print it to an actual printer.

The following table lists the fields of the print to PDF options:

FieldDescriptionValues
Media > PaperThe paper size to be usedA0-A4, Legal, Letter, default A4
Units > Centimeters/InchesUnit to use for the margins, width and height, default CentimetersCentimeters, Inches
Margins > Left, Top, Right, BottomMargins to use in the PDF, the default is 1 cm for all; ensure the borders are wide enough for your printer0-15 (cm) 0-6 (in), do not exceed 15 cm margins (~6 inches)
