Searching For Objects using Object Search

You use the object search on the toolbar to search for objects by specific criteria sets. The criteria are combined by default using the AND operator, this can be overridden. The searches can be optionally saved and the results downloaded.

For each criterion, you select a type:

  • Application - search for objects by the name of their application
  • Documentation - search objects by contents of the Documentation field
  • Description - search objects by contents of the Description field
  • Documentation - search for objects by Name, Description, Documentation fields, or any combination thereof
  • File Event - search for file events by source and/or move directory
  • Modified - search for objects modified by a particular user and/or a specific time frame.
  • Name - search for objects by Name
  • Parameter Value - search for processes, process definitions, and/or chains, or any combination thereof by parameter name/parameter value combination.
  • Partition - search for objects by partition
  • Source - search for process definitions, actions, libraries, and/or triggers, or any combination thereof by the contents of the Source field
  • Specific Field - search for objects by a specific field

Depending on the type of search, you select an operator. The Like and Not Like operators implicitly place wildcards before and after your keyword(s). The Equals and Not Equals are exact match searches.

Results

The following table lists the options for the results of your query:

FieldValuesDescription
Result TypeAll Results Count LimitedAllows you to select if you want all results to be displayed (All Results, default), only the number of matching results (Count), or a subset of the results (Limited).
Row Limit

Used in conjunction with Result TypeLimited, allows you to specify the maximum number of results you want displayed.
Combine Rule

When more than one search query has been specified, you can use operators for the different queries.
Custom Combine Rule

The combine rule allows you to use operators (conjunction, disjunction) for the various queries, for example, if you have 3 queries, you can use AND, OR or a combination of them as follows (A and B) or C.
Sort Rule

Two sort methods are available, by search relevance and per object type.

Combine Rule

Each criterion is assigned to a letter of the alphabet, in the order they were created. When you delete a criterion that is not the last, the letters of the criteria following it are re-allocated.

The Combine Rule allows you to set one operator for all criteria ( and, or ) or construct a logical expression (Custom).

You specify the Custom Combine Rule logical expression according to the rules of logiocal con- and disjunction:

  • (A and B) or C - two result sets are merged, the results which match both criteria A and B as well as the results that match C
  • (A or B) and (C or D) - four result sets are merged: matching A and C, A and D, B and C, and finally B and D; another way to specify this would be (A and C) or (A and D) or (B and C) or (B and D)

The following table lists actions that are available on the Results tab:
